Mahjong Solitaire Rules & Strategy

Goal: Remove all 144 tiles by matching open pairs of identical tiles.

  1. Tile Availability: A tile is free (available for selection) only if it is uncovered (no tile sits even partially on top of it) and has at least one free horizontal side (left or right).
  2. Matching Rules:
    • Suits & Honors: Numbers (Dots, Bamboo, Characters 1–9), Winds (East, South, West, North), and Dragons (Red, Green, White) must match their exact identical twin.
    • Seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter match any other season tile.
    • Flowers: Plum, Orchid, Chrysanthemum, and Bamboo match any other flower tile.
  3. Controls & Shortcuts:
    • Click or Enter to select / deselect tiles.
    • Arrow Keys to navigate focus between available free tiles.
    • H for Hint, U for Undo, S for Shuffle, P to Pause.
